Our Initiatives

Improving quality of life for everybody affected
Founded in 1988, the organisation was founded as a charity fund for the children's section of the UZ Gent. Children's cancer has a major impact on a whole number of facets of the family life.
The KKF's goal is to: aim, to the exclusion of any profit motive, to promote the physical and mental health of the child with cancer, to improve the social situation of the child and family involved and to support scientific cancer research.
The Kinderkankerfonds tries to improve the life quality of a child and its family from day one. They help in numerous ways like; financial aid, funding scientific child cancer research, support mental and physical welbeing of all involved. Lastly they provide meeting moments to exchange experiences among peers and residences where the families involved can keep on living together during treatment.

Creating opportunities for youngsters
Een hart voor Limburg supports local associations that want to give children and young people in vulnerable positions more opportunities. They raise money in various ways and distribute it to relevant initiatives in the region of limburg, which we also support with knowledge and advice.
"The goal is to motivate all people from Limburg together to make Limburg a place where all children have opportunities, because when you support children you are committed to the future."
Een hart voor Limburg is a local charity that supports initiatives that want to offer better opportunities to youngsters in vulnerable positions and stimulate their development in the areas of education, care, and sports/leisure. In concrete terms, they provide financial support to initiatives that work daily with children and young people with a disability, mental or physical, children in (opportunity) poverty, or children who, for some other reason, miss the connection with society.
A social and artistic art project
Artists with disabilities, guided by the Sint-Gerardus care institution, are given a free stage to put their talents in the spotlight. VZW [h]ARS is a community project that sells art made by youngsters with complex motor disabilities. On every piece of art, you can find a QR code that links to a video message with a unique story of the artist. The selection of the art was made together with famous artists Koen van Mechelen and Sofie Van de Velde.
Sint-Gerardus is convinced that children, young people and adults with motor disabilities deserve maximum development opportunities. Our integrated vision, education and care hand in hand, offers tailor-made solutions with extraordinary opportunities!
SPORT
Our Teams

SK Beveren, Challenger Pro League
SK Beveren strives to be much more than just a football team and has placed great emphasis on community engagement since the club’s merger in 2010.
Under the banner ‘SKB EVERYBODY’, the club focuses on a wide range of social issues.
For years, SK Beveren has supported inclusion through GFC SK Beveren, a dedicated football team for young people and adults with disabilities. In 2022, the club also launched Younited Beveren, a team that provides a safe haven for adults who, for various reasons, have found themselves struggling in society.
Through the SKB Cup, a school football tournament, we promote the importance of fair play in collaboration with the municipality of Beveren. The tournament’s grand finale takes place annually at the Freethiel Stadium.
During school holidays, the club also organizes sports camps at a reduced rate, ensuring that every child in the community has the opportunity to participate and enjoy themselves.
Since the introduction of reusable cups, fans have been given the option to donate their cup deposit to a local charity at every home game. This initiative not only raises awareness of these organizations within the fan base but also provides them with financial support.
Additionally, SK Beveren supports other community projects whenever possible. Recently, the club donated a significant number of shirts to an orphanage in Kenya, and in the past, it actively participated in the Port Cleanup.

Community Project Patro Maasmechelen, Challenger Pro League
Patro Eisden started its community working in 2023. Strongly focussed on community of Maasmechelen and the surrounding area through various initiatives that promote sports, inclusivity and social involvement. With its projects they aim to make a positive impact on both children and adults, with special needs to underprivileged and vulnerable groups.
They bring local sports heroes closer to the youngest generations by visiting schools in Maasland, which allows children and young people to find their passion for football and fuelling their own ambitions. In addition, the club's youth activities offer all children the opportunity to be part of the Patro family. Together with the municipality of Maasmechelen, they work on projects to involve underprivileged residents in training to become professional football players. This way they make football accessible to everyone, regardless of their background.
Secondly, their social involvement goes beyond sports. A project in the pipeline, called "Mijnverleden", develops educational teaching materials for primary schools, which highlights the history of region that has a tight knit to the coal mines. The club contributes to the preservation of local heritage and gives youth insight into the past of the large mining regions that Limburg has to offer.
The 3rd pillar of Patro's community work is the “Younited” project, which focuses on inclusivity. Under this initiative, the club plans to organize G-football for people with disabilities and special training for everyone with diverse backgrounds. In this way, the club creates an environment in which everyone is welcome and can participate in sports with the Patro badge on their shirts, like their local heroes.
